Circa Sports and SuperBook host weekend events August 21-22…
Big Football Contest Weekend Coming to Circa & SuperBook
The show must go on. At least that is what Circa Sports and the Westgate SuperBook are both planning for and banking on in late August to help boost football contest sign-ups leading up to kickoff of the 2020 NFL season.
On Thursday, Mike Palm of Circa Sports announced on VSiN’s “A Numbers Game” with Gill Alexander that they will host their first-ever football contest weekend on August 21 and 22. The SuperBook followed via Twitter, noting they are still moving forward with the ninth annual SuperContest Weekend, including their annual golf event, on those same dates.
Circa has introduced a survivor pool this year aptly named the Circa Survivor, adding that to the Circa Million to offer two NFL contests. Palm, VP of Operations for The D, Golden Gate and Circa, told FootballContest.com that the goal of the new contest weekend is to continue spreading the word about Circa while bringing people together in the process.
“We wanted to do something fun and educational that both we and our customers would enjoy,” Palm said. “We hope this will create greater awareness of our still very young brand and offer a great opportunity to network and exchange ideas. Safety was a definite concern, and we chose the two venues that have the most space to host these events.
“We have a panel discussion on Friday night (August 21) in the Detroit Ballroom at The D featuring Mitch Moss, Gill Alexander, Matt Youmans and Michael Lombardi. Saturday, we will have a meet and greet with the panelists and additional leaders from the sports betting community at Bar Canada at The D.”
Meanwhile, SuperContest Weekend has enjoyed a lot of success in the previous eight years, and the Westgate hopes to build on that as well despite the challenges of planning an event around the COVID-19 pandemic. Westgate Las Vegas VP of Race & Sports Operations Jay Kornegay echoed Palm’s sentiments with regards to gathering and networking safely.
“Bettors from all levels enjoy mingling with some of the top voices in the industry,” Kornegay said. “We expect that again this year despite the limitations of today’s world.
“In addition, we always give away a number of SuperContest entries, and that could be boosted for this year’s event. The golf outing at the legendary Las Vegas Country Club is always a popular event for all skill levels. Our intention is to have a good time on the links, and players have an opportunity to win great prizes, including SuperContest entries.”
As far as the SuperContest golf outing goes, Kornegay added it will be limited to 48-52 players, so interested participants should contact them as soon as possible to reserve spots. The reason for this is to again promote safety and social distancing standards over the course of the weekend.
“The dinner that follows (the golf outing) will be split into two ballrooms to practice social distancing, and the raffle results might be done through the Internet,” Kornegay said. “More details as we review options. Our top priority will be the safety of our guests and team members. We will adhere to any directives from the Nevada Governor (Steve Sisolak).”
